SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 9

Requesting the Division of Highways name the bridge on Route 46 in
Ivydale, Clay County, the "J. C. Cruikshank Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, The Honorable John Curns Cruikshank was born August
2, 1911, the son of Bertha Martin and Elmer Cruikshank; and
Whereas, The Honorable John Curns Cruikshank served the
citizens of Clay County as a member of the West Virginia House of
Delegates from 1955 to 1962; and
Whereas, During his tenure in the West Virginia House of
Delegates, the Honorable J. C. Cruikshank contributed to the
betterment of not only the citizens of Clay County but all West
Virginians through his active participation in the legislative
process; and
Whereas, The Honorable J. C. Cruikshank was also involved in
numerous civic organizations. He served as president of the Lions
Club, chairman of the Boy Scouts of America and as a member of the
Clay County Board of Health; and
Whereas, Sadly, the life of the Honorable John Curns
Cruikshank came to an end on March 15, 1980. He was laid to rest
in the Friend Cemetery in his beloved Clay County; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Legislature hereby requests the West Virginia Division of Highways to name the bridge on Route 46, in Ivydale,
Clay County, the "J. C. Cruikshank Memorial Bridge", in tribute to
a man who dedicated much of his life to the betterment of the
citizens of Clay County as a member of the West Virginia House of
Delegates and as a member of numerous civic organizations; and, be
it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
the Department of TransporationTranspioration and the cCommissioner of the
dDivision of hHighways.
